Tatcho Drom, one of the UK’s leading exponents of Romany Gypsy music, has a broad repertoire including traditional music from across Eastern Europe and the Balkans as well as band leader’s Gundula’s own compositions.

Diversity Arts Network: Funding for Cultural Heritage Projects – Sharing and Advice

Are you interested in developing a project that explores cultural heritage, but unsure where to begin? Are you after advice on developing project ideas and applying for funding?

Heritage Lottery Fund (HLF) is working with the Kent Diversity Arts Network and ShivaNova / Equator Festival to run a sharing event on HLF-funded cultural heritage projects from across the South East of England.

The afternoon will include talks from ShivaNova, Brighton Royal Pavilion and Museum, The Panjabi Centre and Diversity House as well as an opportunity for discussion, and a presentation on how to apply for HLF funding.

Come along to:

  • Hear about the breadth of activity across the South East of England;
  • Get hints and tips from experts with experience delivering cultural heritage projects;
  • Learn about how to find a strong focus for your heritage project and apply for HLF funding.

London Tango Quartet and Dancers

A rich selection of tangos old and new.

The London Tango Quartet is made up with select musicians from the London Tango Orchestra which is the largest tango group in the UK, a real “orquesta tipica” uniting leading UK tango musicians with players from Argentina.

The quartet performs music from the rich repertoire of tango, old and new, sharing its love of tango music. They have performed at venues including the Purcell Room in the South Bank Centre, Reading and Cheltenham Tango Festivals, and St James Piccadilly.

London Tango Orchestra

The London Tango Orchestra is the largest professional tango group in the country, a real “orquesta tipica” uniting leading UK tango musicians with players from Argentina. The orchestra was founded in 2009 by Caroline Pearsall and is the first of its kind in the UK.

The orchestra performs music from the rich repertoire of tango, old and new, sharing its love of tango music through concerts, milongas and workshops and cultural exchanges between musicians from Europe, USA and Argentina.

Diversity Arts Network Meeting

‘Diversity is the backbone of a thriving society’

Arts and Cultural organisations can lead the way in diversity as an integral part of what they do, the work they programme and the staff they employ so that arts and culture can belong to everyone.

After our successful events in June and October last year we shall be hosting our third session at The Woodville on March 16th : 1pm – 5.30pm. We would like to thank Mandy Hare at The Woodville for hosting this event with us.

Event Focus: Community Engagement & The Arts

Local groups will discuss their work and we are still looking for arts projects involving the local community to join to agenda.

AGENDA

The complete agenda is still being finalised, but sessions will include:

1. Are you for ready for the GDPR (General Data Protection Regualtions)?

GDPR is a regulation that requires businesses to protect the personal data and privacy of EU citizens for transactions that occur within EU member states. And non-compliance could cost companies dearly. This affects anyone with a mailing list.

Sessions in partnership with Arts Fundraising and Philanthropy Programme and has been funded through their Networks Fund.

2. Cultural Heritage Forum

A forum for individuals and groups that are specifically working on heritage projects in the South-East funded by the Heritage Lottery Fund

Following on from its successful series last year, Equator’s Women of the World returns with another mix of music from around the world.

The Equator Festival Day Pass for Sat 22 Sep includes the following shows:

Equator Festival launched the Women of the World concert series in 2007, with the simple aim of promoting female performers  from all music genres, from all over the world.  Each year Equator showcases the best in female performers, musicians and songwriters.  Over the last nine years the WOW series has presented music from Africa, Eastern-Europe, Middle East, India, Australia and the UK.  The performances have included everything from choirs to solo performers, works you have heard before and new commissions.  Previous performers include: Beyounes Quarter, Commander-in-Chief, Hannah Marcinowicz, Ignite Ensemble, London Bulgarian Choir, London Klezmer Quartet, London Tango Trio, Monica Vasconcelos, Oclay Bayir, Shallu Jindal, Carmen Souza, Invicta Voices, Anna Mudeka and Shiva Nova.

WOW 2018: Tsungai Tsikirai

Tsungai Tsikirai is an award-winning singer–songwriter and dancer from Zimbabwe, now based in the UK. With her southern African group Flame Lily Arts she brings a vibrant combination of dance and music influenced by the legendary sounds of Miriam Makeba, Brenda Fassie and Angélique Kidjo.

In 2014 she was awarded Best Music Female Artist 2014 at the ZIMMA Awards, and in 2015 Mporiro Festival awarded Tsungai for her contribution to contemporary music.

Tsungai launched her debut album, Rova Ngoma, at The Breaking Boundaries Concert which was aimed at promoting cultural diversity, empowering women through arts and community development.

She has recently featured at The British Museum’s Faiths In Tune Festival, ZimFest Live and Nottinghill Carnival.
