Kalia Lyraki – Songs of Crete
with Miltos Boumis on laouto
Kalia Lyraki is a singer-songwriter and multi-instrumentalist, weaving the rich musical traditions of the Eastern Mediterranean into a contemporary soundscape. Born into a family of olive farmers on the island of Crete, her music is rooted in the land, nature, and Greek folk traditions, while embracing the vibrant sonic landscape of London, her current home.
In this concert Kalia presents original and traditional songs from her Cretan heritage, on voice, thiaboli (Cretan recorder), nay (Middle Eastern reed flute) and lavta (Greek Turkish lute), accompanied by Miltos Boumis on laouto (Cretan lute) and voice.
